slowwwwwwwwww

Does the backup in OneCare take an unusually loooooooong period of time to
finish in comparison to other backup programs? I just purchased an external
drive that came with backup software and it backed up the same files as in
OneCare in 1/4 the amount of time so now I am worried on both counts that
one may not be accurate.
TIA

What is the other backup program? How do you know that they both backed up the
same things?
OneCare backs up files by type. It scans the entire drive for matching types,
then creates archives and copies them to the destination. It can be a little
more time consuming vs. other copy processes.

Re: slowwwwwwwwww

Stephen,

You didn't seriously just ask me how do I know they both backed up the same
files did you?
The name of the other program is Memeo and it came with the external Seagate
hard drive I just purchased. The reason I know what files are being backed
up is because I set up what files I wanted backed up in each program.
Does anyone else have a serious answer to my query?

Re: slowwwwwwwwww

Does your Memeo software compress the files when it backs them up or does it
copy them
as is?

Re: slowwwwwwwwww

That I do not know Curious, but whatever scheme it uses perhaps Onecare
could benefit from the same at least with my configuration anyway. Unless
someone may know what is causing the difference in speed (some settings
somewhere) I will cancel the backup in OneCare and stick with this new
program. The new program is DRAMATICALLY speedier.

Re: slowwwwwwwwww

Doe the Memeo software do incremental backups?
I agree that L1C with its file compression takes a long time the first time
but after that since it only makes changes or additions it goes very fast
for me.

Re: slowwwwwwwwww

And what did you not find serious in my response?
You did not mention the other backup program. I acknowledged that the OneCare
backup methodology can be slower that other backup methods.
I, personally, do not care for the OneCare backup feature. Since you have
another backup program, use it and disable the OneCare backup.

Re: slowwwwwwwwww

Curious,

The Memeo software was running an initial backup, the OneCare was doing an
incremental and the external Seagate, Memeo software still beat it hands
down. And yes, it does incremental backups and not only that, it also keeps
a log of files that have changed so even if the drive is off when you turn
it back on it backs up those files that have changed all automatically if
you so wish. I am SOLD on this software that I didn't even know I was
getting when I purchased the Seagate. Of course, I haven't tested how well
it does a restore and that is the true test but for now I am ditching the
OneCare and sticking with this software. It also keeps different file
version sets if you want and a host of all other stuff which I haven't even
gotten into yet. The OneCare backup is ok I guess since it is included in
the bundle, and you can just tell it to run when you don't plan on using the
computer for a long while, but since the Memeo software came free with the
drive it's a no brainer for me.

Re: slowwwwwwwwww

Sounds very good I will have to try the software that came with my Western
