NAS Backup (a workaround with some cash)

Hi guys

Just to update you on my findings while messing around with a new netgear
storage central device. As my old way of doing a backup fails miserably with
the Freecom NAS 500gb. Permissions issues + some kind of software issues
either with Freecom Software or Onecare, + How Windows see's the drive.

But after many months and days and hours of grief I thought lets try a new
device on the market.

Now, Netgears Storage Central uses Virtual Drives, but as I saw it there are
SCSI miniport drivers being technical minded and all of that. Now you can
set these drives up to share folders through windows, so here is the
workaround so setting permissions is easier and more effective so we can
keep our security concerns also.

Netgears drive you can put in two drives and set them to mirroring or if you
dont care 2x 500gb drives. There is a disadvantage though the netgear
storage central is only the case and you have to buy a drive to go in it. So
if money is not a problem then...why not, and they are going for £60 in
places at the moment the IDE ATA100 drive version as the newer version is
SATA supported so they have improved the drive and suppose it is faster
compared.

What I would like to do is maybe make two lists in this forum, one for
drives that work! and drives that don't for OneCare Backup and we can see if
there is a common problem and Microsoft OneCare Team should be able to see a
clearer picture of the problem. Maybe this has already been done but it
would be useful for people who are having problems and can take their drive
back and purchase something that is more supported.

Hope this helps some people with their problems and heartache but I really
back Onecare and wanted to share my views and findings with the community.

Thanks

Simon

Re: NAS Backup (a workaround with some cash)

Hello, Simon.
Hopefully you'll get some responses here or in the forum as we know that using
an NAS device for backup in OneCare can be painful for some.
