I have a laptop which I have just rebuilt from scratch. One Care ran ok in
the previous set up. Now with exactly the same software installed the firewall won't start. I have the Windows Firewall running instead, and behind that there is one in the router. However I would like to crack this problem. All the other One Care functions seem to be running normally I have been to Online help and, following ther advice I have 1. Checked out the One Care start settings. When started manually it begins to run then ceases with a message that is not relevant (roughly it says if there are no systems in the machine that need a firewall it does not start) 2. Corrected the Path, whiche seemed to have been overriden by SQL 3 Reinstalled MSXML4 Service Pack 2 4 Reinstalled One Care all in the sequence recommended by the online help. No progress. Anyone any ideas Roger Stenson |

Thanks for your help Stephen. All of your recomendations ran smoothly.
I ran the v2 repair product to no avail I have now forwarded the problem to the help desk and have just finished sending the diagnostics. I will report on the results when I have heard back. Roger Stenson "StephenB" <sboots@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:afudm3pi11m8fs2n3opine47s4veu6r3h9@xxxxxx

Sorry for the delay but there has been some intervening holiday
I had a long interactive session with the help desk. During this, I watched them repeatedly going through the remedies recommended by the help screen, fruitlessly. In the end they told me my system was needed rebuilding because it was corrupted So I rebuilt it again completely on a purged disk and OneCare ran ok again but the same problem recurred after a day or two. Again the fireware could not be restarted after repeating the solutions recommended by the help desk This time I just uninstalled Live OneCare, ran a Vista upgrade using the installation disk leaving all the other sofware installed. Again Live Once Care resintalled and ran normally for about a fortnight. Then today it failed again and won't restart. I have not changed the system configuration at any time in the process. It seems to me that the problem is eventually triggered by something that comes down the pipe with Windows Update. I am hard to persuade it is the software I am operating. The PC contains a subset of the software on my two desktops which have never had this problem. Just about the only additional product on the PC is a softfone but that has been an everpresent. Everything on my laptop runs ok apart from One Care. I am beginning to conclude that the product is not fit for purpose. Microsoft can not offer a solution. I propose to abandon it on this lap top which ran for years with the same application set under Norton Roger Stenson "StephenB" <sboots@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:c08fm31grnlbgq6mmdu1t35ckufqb687gs@xxxxxx

I'm sorry to read that it continues to be troublesome. Thanks for trying. If you
want to try again after then next update, your system may well be helped by the patch update that is slated for released around the 31st of January. -steve "Roger Stenson" <roger@xxxxxx> wrote:

The rule of tumb is : never run with 2 firewalls. They are Not compatible to each other. One will cancell out the other. That's why. Windows Firewall is meant to do the job, and it does. Why lean on a third party firewall, even it says " windows " ? |
