Prior to installing trial Live Onecare, 2 days ago, I created a restore
point. but now I wanted to restore my system to this restore point but there were NO restore points available. Does Tuneup remove restore points?? I ran it once, or I should say I had no choice 'cause you can't totally disable it. Thanks, James |

Are you dual booting this machine? I believe that dual booting with Vista and XP causes problems with Restore Points. -steve -- Stephen Boots sboots@xxxxxx Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Windows Live OneCare Forum Moderator http://forums.microsoft.com/windowso....aspx?siteid=2 |

The XP volsnap.sys (VSS driver) will delete Vista's system restore points,
file previous versions, backups, Complete PC Backup files (if online), and anything else that Vista's volsnap.sys was used to take snapshots. This happens during the XP boot up. Volsnap.sys enumerates VSS related files during boot across the entire system. The XP version sees the enhanced Vista VSS files as incompatible (corrupted) and deletes them to protect the user from attempting to restore from a file or backup. Booting into Vista does not do the same thing to XP because Vista knows about XP. It is a bad idea to dual boot XP and Vista in a production system since booting into XP destroys Vista's recovery files. correction:
"...attempting to restore from a file or backup." should read "...attempting to restore from a corrupted file or backup>" "Colin Barnhorst" <colinbarharst@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9A13673C-2823-41B9-A861-FDBC8DBE553E@xxxxxx

I've posted to Vista newsgroup concerning this. Thought it was Tuneup.

Do you have a dual boot system on one disk drive? If yes then AFAIK the
creation of a restore point on the other system would overwrite your restore point. "JamesJ" <jjy@xxxxxx_darwin.net> wrote in message news:%2325saNgSIHA.1528@xxxxxx

Actually, it isn't necessary to create a restore point to see this. If XP
and Vista are dual-booted, merely booting into XP will destroy Vista's restore points (and any other VSS related files such as backups, etc). Booting into Vista does not have the same effect on XP. See my post earlier in this thread for the explanation. "JW" <JW@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C22A3003-406F-489F-B6F4-B0407E16734C@xxxxxx
