Re: ReBoot Time

I shut my workstation down completely and kill the power at a wall switch. This protects my workstation during storms. Saves on the power bill. Keeps the room cooler and quiet for sleeping. If your parents or you pay the electric bill, turn off the computer when not in use. Only my web server is left on. It was designed to use around 100-120W. My main workstation has a 1000W power supply, 8800GTS video and SAS RAID drives.

I read the UK is asking its citizens to turn off appliances not in use including computers to save on energy and cut down on green house gases from power plants.

Re: ReBoot Time

Now I know why I've been sticking with AMD processors on ASUS motherboards all these years:

Size: 19.9 KB

Not bad, eh? My time includes an error margin of a few seconds to enter my login password...

Re: ReBoot Time

WOW! 42 seconds! That's pretty impressive. I guess those extra two cores make a big difference. I've got an AMD Turion 64 x 2 Mobile TL-58, and the fastest time I could get was 87 seconds.

I could hardly believe it myself when the reboot script gave me that result - because it feels longer. I suppose I could shave off another couple of seconds by using automatic login, but I hate auto logins...

Re: ReBoot Time

Heres Mine :

Pretty bad eh .
For some Reason AMD Machines seem to boot much faster than Intel ones.
Will Run the script on my AMD Rig and report back.

Re: ReBoot Time

My workstation takes 150 seconds from off to ready to work.

ECC Scrubbing
POST
memory testing of 16GB
SCSI and SAS RAID controllers finding hardware

It is a server board.

I just flip it on and go get coffee.

Once its up and running, it is incredibly fast.

There's a reason for that - AMD is way better than Intel !

Re: ReBoot Time

I can give many reasons why Intel is better than AMD. I used to only use AMD. Go to PlanetAMD64.com and see how many of us are switching to Intel. Ruiz screwed AMD over and the customers are going along for the ride.

Each unto his own, I suppose? But that still doesn't explain why my AMD Rig (Prometheus) boots in 42 seconds where most others who posted times are clocking 70 seconds or more?

You've also got to factor in that script counts the time from when it issues the restart command. So the times it reports includes Windows Shutdown, POST and finally Windows Bootup and login.
