Is this possible?

A guy who I go to college with went to the latest i series in England, and apparently he won an Intel Skulltrail motherboard, with two QX9775 processors (don't really believe him) especially as that's the 3rd time in a row he's won something like this.

He's then been drilling on about having 4 way Crossfire with 4 4870x2s, but what I don't understand is how they fit on the motherboard.

As you can see from the photo, the 4th PCI-E slot is literally right next to the 3rd slot, so there's plenty of room for 3, but how does the 4th fit on?

And apparently he gets 300FPS with Crysis, which also adds to the believability of it.

Re: Is this possible?

Most likely, but I don't understand the four way Crossfire either, even after ATI have said it can support it, but there's no way 4 dual slot cards can fit on there.

Re: Is this possible?

Where is the guy relative to you?

Pop over and make him put his money where his mouth is, so to speak

Also, didn't that motherboard only support PCIe 1? If so those 4870x2s are going to be starved.

Re: Is this possible?

lol...... they wont all fit
though i believe the Skulltrail boards four slots do run @ x16

he would be able to squeeze in 3 ... & even then the cards cant breathe!! ...except the bottom one.

not to mention the fact that the Northbridge fan is also completely blocked

ask him about how nice it must be to have his feet kept warm by the ''ATX furnace'' under the desk...

Re: Is this possible?

Was thinking that myself. Looking at the Skulltrail now, it's not a very well designed board at all.

Yes, but I believe it's x16 PCIe1.1, not PCIe 2 which would mean those cards are getting half the bandwidth they can handle.

At least the initial boards were only PCIe 1.1.

Re: Is this possible?

no the newest skulltrail, the 2008, thats being Won with the QX9775's. yes you get 2 with the board. so if he honestly won, he got a great board, and TWO QX9775's. and yes the board can run Quad GFX at 16x on all 4. but NO way in hell he can fit 4 4870x2 in there. probably only 2.. and the game literally cannot even get 300 FPS. I'm completly sure he's lying. but There's a good chance that he won the Dual QX9775's, and the board..

Intel has been having a drawing for that setup. they are giving one away from June, July, and August. but the August drawing ended Sept 9th, and they still have not told anyone who won, and I emailed them about it and they said it wouldn't be posted until mid October, so either he won it somewhere else, or he MAYBE won there first drawing, as the second one's not been posted yet. so I don't know.

yes it runs Quad 16x , but no he does not have 4 4870x2's in there. he's lying!

*Edit, oh and guys. I entered 7 times for the Last chance August Skulltrail drawing. WISH ME LUCK! I've been feeling it, so maybe I won, but wont' know for a little while

Re: Is this possible?

well I would, but it's a intel thing for people that work in the retail market, like bestbuy, circuitcity, stuff of that sort. all I did was had a friend that works there sign up and enter for me. cuz he could care less. He said if I win, all the power to me, he wont care, or ask for money, but I'd throw him some anyways. thats like over 3 grand in stuff.

and trust me. if I ever see deals and stuff of that sort. i'd for SURE, share it with my buddies of vistax64.com. COMMON NOW!
what you think I'm selfish or something. although I sure do want that Dual QX9775's. hehe. Trust me, I'd share the info. and I said this elsewhere already. If I win. I'll donate my current goods to poeple here that I think need and deserve it. like my Q6700, and other things. but I don't think I'll win. but wish me luck, or Pray for me or whatever you guys do. lol ok. cuz then I can maybe give amplid or someone like him a new CPU. hehe jk
