Vista - I'm getting the Q9650 :)

I'm happy to be telling you all that tomorrow I'll be getting the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 E0 stepping 3.0 GHz 1333 MHz FSB... bla bla bla.

You guys should know what it is. or most of you do. I was originally wanting to get the Q9550. but I'm not going to wait for the E0 stepping on that. I'm just going to snag the Q9650 thats for sure E0 and be happy. it costs a little more. but my friend works there so I get a little discount.

Although the Q9550 E0's were supposed to have already shipped out to retailers everywhere. yet we are still not seeing them. I did hear that some people ordered some from Australia and they got Q9550's with E0 stepping from AU..not sure why they'd have it before the U.S. but whatever.

This is my plan. I'm going to a supersize electronics store in the states called Fry's. they have over 200 Q9000 series CPU's in a locked room. I'm going to throw the employee a $20 dollar bill to dive in and search through the boxes for a Q9550 with the SLV8B sSpec. and thats the E0 stepping. if he can't find one, then I'll just eat it and get the Q9650 instead.

So ya. I'm hoping to reach 4.0 Ghz decently on Air, and start really really enjoying my system and games .

and well. I dont' really have tons of Coin to Toss. I will say that for only being 22 and making around $180-250 Daily plus an additional $5.85 an hour is pretty decent. thats cuz I'm a server inside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and I serve at a really nice place. then I have a second job that I work at nites about 2 or 3 times a week.. rather not get into detail. but lets just say that one for how little I work actually pays me very, VERY well.. and no it's not a hooker or anything like that. lol.

Also I did get the QX6850 for a very good deal. and ended up selling it on Ebay for almost double I paid. not to mention that I got a great deal on the Q9650. it's usually like $539.00 or more here in the states. Lets just say I paid around $400 for it and that wasn't to hard because I got more than that from my QX6850 I sold.. plus I'll be placing my Q6700 in some other machine and getting a return on that. so all in all. it's actually not that bad. and will be a good upgrade.

don't tell me it wont.. I know it's not that extreme and all. Just don't ruin my parade here mkay. I'm exited.

Well.. my Q9650 will be here in about an hour.. waiting on driver to deliver. I just checked it.

I'm exited to see how this bad boy runs. but will have fun completely taking apart my system.. pullin Mobo out and reapplying my Heatsink.

Question. whats the best way to run a software to compare the two. other than 3DMark..? I know I wont have that much better of results. But I still wanna do it.

Record the fps of the games you play. Get fraps while you're waiting for you new core to arrive and run through a few games. Then do the same thing after you install the new chip. You'll know if the upgrade was worth it if you see fps increase in the apps you actually use.

Well I actually do a decent ammount of video incoding and burning and what not also.. but thats not like all that extremely demanding I know. Maybe I'll try a DVD encode.. then try it again with the Q9650. and also do the game and fraps idea. Not bad idea sir.

Encoding and decoding would be a good test as it's heavily cpu dependent. SuperPi is another synthetic bench that allows you to quickly see cpu strength by calculating Pi. It's not good or bad, it just is. The screens you see are the 1MB test; get sub 10's and you're smoking. Coolaler @ 5.26GHz Sub 10 second SuperPi_1M!!! - XtremeSystems Forums

But again, the best indicator is using what you use. So by all means, encode/decode something and run your games.
