| Vista Home Premium 32-bit & Vista Ultimate 64-bit both Service Pack 2 W7 Pro RTM 7600 32 & 64 | Re: Dell Latitude d400 Hi jkswimmer and welcome to Vista Forums ![]() Sorry, but I don't recommend this. With a desktop system, then possibly. However, with laptops things are much more complicated. Power consumption and heat dissipation are the greatest concern and they are optimised for the current processor in the system. A replacement processor, if it is not identical, might have different power and thermal characteristics, in which case the system would fail to keep it within its normal working range. In addition to that, simply accessing the processor on a laptop is much more complicated than simply removing the side panel as you would on a desktop. You literally have to strip the laptop right down, being carefull not to lose the various small screws or damage the wiring and its connectors. And then, of course, you will need to repeat the procedure in reverse to reassemble it. Personally, I would leave your laptop as it is, with one exception. To improve its performance, make sure that you have installed the maximum amount of memory that it supports (see manual for details). |

| Windows 7 x64 | Re: Dell Latitude d400 I don't think the Core 2 would even be compatible with that laptop. It's an old laptop, so you'd most likely have to upgrade the whole thing as it uses DDR RAM, not DDR2. |

| Vista 32bit SP1 | Re: Dell Latitude d400 Better not try to upgrade the processor, as taking the processor out if going to be a long & painful process. And if you break anything or damage any wiring then matter can get a bit out of hand. |
