4GB Gets Cheap: 9 Dual-Channel Kits Compared

DDR2 SDRAM prices began dropping significantly last summer as the world prepared for DDR3-only Core i7 platforms, culminating in today’s ultra-low-priced, four-gigabyte dual-channel kits. For as little as $25, users of this older technology can step up to memory levels that had been reserved for only the upper echelon of last-year’s buyers.
Who needs 4.0 GB RAM? At these prices, does it really matter? Most systems eventually get clogged up with rarely used programs such as second or third instant messengers, redundant spyware blockers, and other once-useful tools that have become parasites while users, still mindful of the program’s former effectiveness, often don’t want to bother removing. The accumulation of junk can affect any operating system.

That is a great read nigel.......;)

i think RAM is arguably the biggest deciding factor over how your PC runs, & at the price DDR2 is these days its a MUST to fill your board to capacity, this i7 DDR3 era has allowed the DDR2 user to benifit from some AMAZING prices & the icing on the cake is the fact that DDR2 is still in its prime!!!!

you can never have too much RAM, especially with vista...

good read. Although im suprised they didnt sample corsair's xms2c4. Ive stuck with the same corsair 'c4' ram for a few years now since i dont like overclocking, the 4-4-4-12 timings on the corsair make it appealing despite the price tag.

I just got my 2x2GB Corsair Dominators PC2-8500C5D's for $79.99 on newegg.com and it has a $40.00 MIR.. I also got 15% cashback with paypal.. so I ended up paying like $28.99 for the entire kit.

they are currently running 1066 MHz with 5-5-4-15-22 and I've yet to try and overclock it. but I will soon. as I OC everything. lol

It looks like your PC can only take a maximum of 2GB at 533 (PC-4200)

yeah I've just got 2GB and a 9800 GT OC,and want a new motherboard,I've checked to see my chipset and its Intel 82945G which i believe is socket 775? I've seen a motherboard( XFX GeForce 9300) and it supports 775 processors, its a micro ATX and was wondering if this would be ok?

ok this board isnt SLi ready so wont be goin for that, but when deciding upon a board as long as it supports 775 should i be ok,or are their other factors involved? Thanks for the help guys.

Ignore this post,I've done some reading up on it

I just purchased two sets for a total of 8GB for this machine, for $99.98US.

G.SKILL DDR2 PC2 5300

Hello again.

I started studding the mobo specs for this HP machine and found that it would run PC2-6400. I had purchased this RAM (I also paid $99.98 for) earlier for the new rig I've been putting together; so I thought I'd give it a go. It's now running just fine in this machine. I guess I'll RMA the "667" back to Newegg; unopened when it gets here.

Later ;) Ted

:eek::eek: that is CHEAP!

$80 for 8gb 1066 dominators.....that's brilliant

just buy it Ted, at that price you might as well take them for spares.....or chuck in the 1066 sticks & keep the 800s as spares, or sell them....??

that's £49 over here..... for 8gb  i'd be all over that...
