| Vista Home Premium 32bit | My Laptop is Noisy and is HOT!!! Help! I've been having my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop for 2 years now. I don't remember when it started to be noisy and to heat when i turn on the laptop, but it's been a while. I tried to clean down the fan area to remove dust,as i thought it might have cloged the ventilation area, but it hasn't changed anything. It is too hot, that i can't put it on my lap and it makes a loud noise of a hair dryer and you can hear it from another room ![]() I checked with HP, but apparently I have to renew my waranty and also remove everything from my laptop before sending it back to HP for fix. And i don't want to remove my softwares and other stuffs as i don't have my intallment CDs here with me ( i move to another country) Do you have any ideas on how i could fix it without having to send it back to HP??? Thanks for any ideas |

| Windows 7 x64 | Re: My Laptop is Noisy and is HOT!!! Help! You could try buying a cooling base for it, which you just attach to the underside of your laptop and it has a few fans built in to it, and just keeps the laptop cool. Laptops generally do get a bit toasty though. I've taken a few laptops apart myself and when you see how cramped it is in there, it's understandable why. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: My Laptop is Noisy and is HOT!!! Help! A cooling base is a good place to start. It will probably add even more noise, but it will probably cool things down a bit :P Have you tried using any monitoring software? Perhaps Everest or similar (lots of posts/threads about this and similar applications on this board) to see what the machine is actually doing? fan speeds, temps etc? Unfortunately laptops are difficult to remedy with this sort of thing. They are, in general hot little things and are difficult to upgrade or swap out parts. The fact that yours is noisy is probably because inboard fans are running @ maximum speeds. The fact that it is only 2 years old must surely be disappointing. Are there any other options such as a local technician able to have a look at it? Sure that may cost you some cash, but at least it may be manageable to keep your current install/apps. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: My Laptop is Noisy and is HOT!!! Help! What has probably happened is that the dust has clogged the radiator fins around the CPU - this is a problem with laptops that have been used for over 2 years, or less time in high dust environments, and the only way to remove that is to take them apart so they radiators can be efficiently cleaned. If you are not comfortable taking a laptop apart (and they are very delicate pieces of equipment - even though I take them apart all the time it is not something I would recommend even for someone with advanced skills - it takes a good amount of know how and experience to figure out what comes out, what doesn't and how it all fits back together without breaking it all) I'd recommend taking it to a shop that can do it for you and get it cleaned out. If I were to tell you I can do it, great, but not everyone who *says* they can do it really *can* do it, so be very very pixky about who you let open it up. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: My Laptop is Noisy and is HOT!!! Help! Thank you guys. Moirae> I tried the cooling base and indeed it makes more noise but keeps my laptop cooler. But the noise is annoying and I am really looking for a solution on how to get rid of it. Any ideas? Johngalt> I was thinking the same. I saw a computer shop here in town and I was thinking stopping there and ask them about their ability in leaning the fan. I think it is more liable to let the store manage it than giving to some computer guy here at school to try to clean it. I really hope it's only a dust issue and not a "i need to buy a new fan". |
