If i set my motherboard to it's native 1333mhz with a CPU that has an 800mhz bus....

Would this overclock all my components on the front side bus? The reason I ask is because if i was to put a CPU in with a rated 1333mhz bus speed for example my FSB would be set at that speed but it would not be overclocking my ram chipset e.t.c they would be at there stock rated values still.

So i'm assuming as 1333mhz is a native preset for my motherboards bus speed I should be able to run at this bus speed without overclocking everything else on the BUS?

You can overclock the FSB without overclocking the RAM, but it will overclock the CPU, like if you put an 800MHz FSB CPU in a 1333MHz mobo the mobo will downclock to 800MHz, so then overclocking this will overclock the CPU, as well.

On my Asus board, there actually isn't a way to unlink the FSB from the RAM. So any FSB changes have a direct impact on RAM speed

I noticed you have an older Asus board, so it might be something to look out for in the BIOS.

I have onboard video at the moment & I don't wish to overclock the chipsets either just the CPU.
Just hoping to overclock the CPU by running at 1333mhz native motherboards bus speed while leaving everything else at it's native speed if that makes sense?

Like as if i was running a 1333mhz CPU everything else would still run at native speeds.

The CPU I have has been OC to a 1333mhz bus speed running stable by other people from what ive read via google, but I dont think I can lock the onborad video to OC it up to that FSB.
If I could make it run at 1333mhz like a CPU of that bus speed my onboard video would be running at it's native speed still.

Just got a new motherboard that has a load of OC options and a much higher FSB than my old one so im looking to get a performance boost from my aging CPU. I will replace the CPU at some point but cash is abit low at the min.

Well if your CPU is capable of being pushed to a 1333MHz FSB, and you have adequate cooling, then it's up to you if you want to try it. Overclocking the FSB won't overclock your onboard video, and like what Smarty said, may or may not overclock your RAM.

Are you sure about my onboard video not being overclocked aswell? I thought anything on the FSB will be effected when you increase it's speed.

As far as I know, the onboard video isn't linked to the FSB, it's just controlled by the CPU.

Yep, onboard will remain untouched.

What board did you get btw?

Asus p5q-em, not the best overclocker at the min tho it should be with all the OC options in the bios. It even allows you to make OC profiles in the bios & save your best configurations. Bios updates have slowly been improving the boards teething problems with the new intel Intel G45 Express chipset. Seems to have problems on all the boards out with this new intel chipset at the min. Just realized i forgot it has a max BUS speed of 1600 MHz. Heres a link to the board with the full specs

ASUS P5Q-EM iG45 Socket 775 onboard VGA 8 channel audio mATX Motherboard - Ebuyer

Won't i need to give some more juice to the chipset if i overclock tho?
Thanks for all the responses by the way people's.
