Cooling Program Question

Hey All,
Could someone tell me any good and simple programs i could use to find out the temperature of my CPU and GPU and a program that i can control the fan speed of my PC.
So far i have tried both "Speed Fan" and "I8Kfan" and both dont seem to recognize my computer... they show that my processor is at -64C.
However i do use river tuner to find out and control the temp of the GPU, but its mainly controlling the temp of the CPU.

Furthermore something off the the topic does anyone know if i can overclock my CPU, im not to sure as i have a dell vostro 410.

Computer Specs:

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Business
OS Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
Processor (CPU): Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Total Memory: 4096MB RAM

Graphics Card Name: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Graphics Card Chipset: GeForce 8800 GT
Graphics Card Memory: 1779 MB (512MB/1267 MB)

Thank You, look forward to your replies

Re: Cooling Program Question

Hi Prak06

You can download HWmonitor to view your temps.

Since you own a Dell pc you cant overclock as Dell locks the bios to stop you doing that. Sorry. Heres a really old thread that explains why Dell PC's cant be overclocked. There are overclocking software apps available but i dont recommend using them as they are really unreliable and can damage your pc.

Re: Cooling Program Question

No problem. HWmonitor is free and should show you all your temps but it doesnt allow fan control. I dont know of software that allows fan control but you can buy hardware fan controllers.

Re: Cooling Program Question

If you have all your fans connected to the motherboard, then Speedfan allows you to change the fan speeds as well as soom temp monitoring (though it has been woefully inaccurate for me at times). I don't think you can save fan settings in it, though, so you have to manually change the speeds at each startup.

You might also be able to change the minimum speed of your CPU fan in your BIOS. By default, the BIOS sets mine at 100% minimum, so I put it down to around 50% minimum which makes a difference in terms of noise now and no difference to temps, though with you having a Dell, it might not be possible.

For GPU fan speeds, you can set up fan profiles with something like RivaTuner and apply them to startup.

Re: Cooling Program Question

Seeing as it is a Dell the option may not be there, and they don't show it as an option here,

http://support.dell.com/support/edoc....htm#wp1109861

but have a look in the bios (should be in the Power Management section) for anything to do with fan speed/control, may be listed as PWM. If it is there enable it and the CPU fan at least should run at a lower speed, and only speed up when there is a load on the CPU and the extra rpm's are needed for extra cooling.

If it is the video card you want to slow down you can try RivaTuner,

RivaTuner v2.24 download from Guru3D.com

If you do try it just play around with the fan speeds. Here's a guide on how to set them up (both manual and automatic fan control),
