Hello everyone, how can i overclock my cpu (AMD Phenom II X3 710 & Ecs Gf8200a Phenom-2 X4 Quad Core Mboard)?
I do have Frequency / Voltage control in the bios.
But i have never overclocked before so not sure how to do it correctly.

Hello fadedrs,
Did you know you can unlock the 4th core on this bad boy ?, Enable ACC in the BIOS (if you can) to enable the 4th core, but if you do that i would run Prime 95 just to check the 4th core is good. (AMD dont like it though and on the later one's they laser etched the crap out of the 4th core). How much were you hoping to get out of this CPU ?, i would leave the voltage on auto for now and bump up the frequency, try +5 at a time untill you get issue's (most likely a BSOD), or you reach your desired speed, if you get a BSOD up the voltage, i think the stock voltage is 1.3V but you would need to check this. Go here and have a read,
Ultimate Overclocking & Stability Testing - Dev Hardware
Next go to the AMD site and check the spec's for your CPU.
Products & Technologies
Also you will need speedfan to check the temp's and CPUz to check the speed and the voltage.
I have seen these up to 3.5Ghz without too many issue's, just keep an eye on the temp's. (of course they will go higher but you get into cooling issue's then). Give it a go and post your result's. Good luck.
the possibility of unlocking the 4th core was the idea why i bought it. plus the price. will play with it later.
one more thang what does ACC stand for? the long name.
here is the current Cpu-z and Speedfan

I think it's Advanced Clock Calibration.
ok did not see that option but will look again later tonight.
will do it later tonight when i have more free time and concentrate on it, thank you.
ok i have two possible bios updates (see link)
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Dow...nuID=6&LanID=0
now my question is do i need to flash both of them if mine is older? or just the newest one?

Just the newest one, but remember, updating the Bios is fraught with danger and most if not all motherboard makers will tell you to only do it if you are experiencing issue's with the current Bios. Having said all that the chance's of something going wrong are slim, (it's just that if it does go wrong it's normally fatal), i think they say that because if it does go wrong it mean's an RMA. Good luck.
yeah that i know.
ok so test #1 is a success changed the cpu mhz in the mobo to 210mhz from the stock 200mhz. as i am coming to realize this is all i can do.
so far so good temps holding at 32c no what just dropped to 31c and holding
core mhz went from 2600mhz to 2730mhz
will keep playing with it and post the results.
