Solved Cleaning Fan

Power User
Um, I have a computer around five years old and I want to clean the fan since it's getting a little loud and hotter. Any help? (It's a laptop)

Laptops are tricky so I would see your user's manual. There might be a way to have it clean itself. You could try spraying a can of compressed air into the exhaust. Otherwise you'll have to take it apart. I'm not very good with that.

I used the manual that I found on the hp website and managed to take out the keyboard and clean the fan a little bit. To access the fan completely will require me to take apart almost everything. Can't someone create a maintenance-friendly laptop case? Adding a vent that is attached only by screws right below the fan wouldn't be too hard, right?

I believe that there are some that actually use the fan to push the dust out. But generally laptops are hard to work with.

I agree with townsbg, every time I have worked on a laptop that requires taking apart it has been a pain, laptops are optimised to keep things small and allow heat dissipation.

I bought my laptop with Vista Home Premium on it, $1700 AUD but tbh if/when it starts acting up, I'm not even going to bother trying to fix it.

To me laptops are a disposable item,(getting cheaper daily) now my desktop on the other hand, if a component breaks/dies I will spend the money on it too get it back.
