CTP eBook Offer

SAPIEN Press is offering a special price on the e-book version of PowerShell
TFM v2.0: TFM that Jeffrey Snover blogged about
(http://blogs.msdn.com/powershell/arc...available.aspx)
from now until the end of November 2007. When you checkout at
www.scriptingoutpost.com use discount code VERSION2 to get the e-book at
$19.99. Because this book covers PowerShell v2.0 and is part of a special
"IPO" program, be sure to read the information at
http://www.sapienpress.com/powershell3.asp.

Re: CTP eBook Offer

When we revised the manuscript for v1.0, we enlisted a number of IT pros to
give us real-world feedback to make sure we covered the material that needed
to be covered. We'll likely setup a feedback mechanism for this book as
well.

BTW, the revised v1.0 book, PowerShell v1.0: TFM 2nd Ed. is now available as
an e-book while we await indexing to finish. The printed book should be
available by early December. And just to be clear, Windows PowerShell v1.0:
TFM 2nd edition (http://www.sapienpress.com/powershell2.asp) is the
reference book for production uses of PowerShell. The e-Book that covers the
CTP is intended for readers already familiar with PowerShell and looking for
help in understanding new features in v2.0.

RE: CTP eBook Offer

Hope nobody else experiences this error when trying to actually retrieve the
eBook that I just 'experienced'. (Note the obvious spelling error, wirte vs.
write) in the error message. That kind of poor web programming on thee part
of Sapien kind of makes me less than enthusiastic about recommending this
book, electronic or otherwise to anyone, as you might imagine. Here's the
error I got:
We're sorry.
The key you provided has been deactivated. Either it was exchanged for
another key, or it was deactivated for other reasons. You can contact us if
you believe this is an error.

Diagnostic information (if you need to contact us, please include this):
DT: 11/9/2007 10:49:51 AM

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01b6'

Object doesn't support this property or method: 'wirte'

/redeem_deactive.asp, line 51

I can't speak to the web site since that's outside my scope (although I did
pass your comment on), but things sometimes happen with product activation.
I trust you contacted SAPIEN and they worked things out with you.

Probably obvious to all, but I guess 'wirte' should be 'write' ;-)

Re: CTP eBook Offer

Good grief, Fred. That's horrible and I can definitely see where it'll
be difficult for you to ever trust anyone again. I'll find out whoever
made that mistake and have them shot immediately. I agree that there's
no room in the world for human error - don't worry, they'll never make
any mistake again. If there's anything I can do in the way of therapy,
just let me know.

Oh, wait... that was MY typo. Well, I'll just nip off and slit my
throat.

Re: CTP eBook Offer

Oh, and I've fixed it - someone else had been kind enough to point it
out in the customer service area of SAPIEN's Web site, which obviously
gets looked at by the customer service folks pretty frequently, and
they called me right up - thanks to everyone who was being patient
with this.
