Careful with that regex cause it is greedy:

22> "[foo] bar [baz]" -match "\[(.*)\]"
True
23> $matches[1]
foo] bar [baz

You can solve that in a couple of ways:

24> "[foo] bar [baz]" -match '\[(.*?)\]'
True
25> $matches[1]
foo

26> "[foo] bar [baz]" -match '\[([^\]]*)'
True
27> $matches[1]
foo
