Browse (enumerate) computers on the network (like Explorer does)

How can I get (w or wo WMI) a collection of computers on the network. There
are some samples to get the computer accounts out of Active Directory, but I
want the list of computers the way Windows Explorer displays them under the
Network folder.

Thanx,
Hans

thanx so far.

No Active Directory; just machines on the network.

If there's just a classroom full of standalone Windows Server 2003 machines,
Windows Explorer lists them under Microsoft Windows Network. How can I
enumerate those machines?

Re: Browse (enumerate) computers on the network (like Explorer doe

If you have worked Computer Browser then you can do this:

net view | ?{$_ -match "^\\\\\S*" } | %{$_.trim("\")

be aware that NET VIEW command relies on Computer Browser Service. If it is
configured correctly - you'll see all computers in your broadcast segment.
All computers that splitted with routers will be unavailable, becaue
Computer Browser Service use broadcast technology to manage browse list.
