OK to install PowerShell 2.0 CTP3 on Server 2008 SP2?

I have PowerShell 2.0 CTP3 on Windows 7 beta and would like the same version
on my Server 2008 SP2 system but there is a caveat in the release notes that
the WinRM that is required is not compatible with 2k8 SP2.

Alternatively, I'm considering upgrading Server 2008 SP2 to Server 2008 R2
but that seems a much bigger step and I'm happy with my current 2k8 system.
Is this even possbile though since I'm using an integrated beta and can't
uninstall SP2?

Thanks, Dave

So use CTP3 and just skip the remoting stuff.

R2 comes with a version of CTP3 built in.

Thanks Thomas. I did realize CTP3 was in 2k8 R2 and my second question was
actually whether I could apply R2 on top of an integrated beta where I was
not able to remove SP2 beta. I probably should have asked that separately.

Ok - it wasn't clear.

Not sure - I suspect if you try, you can tell us and possibly perform
some validation for MS! :-)

I'm not clear on how MS plan to service PowerShell in Win7 or Server
2008 R2. Since it's a component of the OS, I assume later supported
versions will just be released as a KB fix - apply the hot fix and
(later) get PowerShell upgraded.

If I were you and wanted R2, I'd do a clean release and keep it off
anything remotely real production.

HTH

Re: OK to install PowerShell 2.0 CTP3 on Server 2008 SP2?

Thanks Thomas. I surely will post any experience going from SP2 to R2 if I
decide to bite the bullet. That said, I may just add PS CTP3 since my
"production" environment is for development and learning and I've put so much
time into 2k8 and Hyper-V and migrating OS systems lately as it is and have
it all running well now so need to get back to development. Learning PS 2.0
is sort of a background learning experience and I think I will take your
prior advice and just install and not worry if WinRM does not work since that
it is not my goal to actually use that aspect of PS. Thanks,
