Beginners questions

I'm just starting with Powershell and have seen, that there are a few IDEs
like PowerGUI and Powershell Plus around. On the other side: Powershell V2
will come with Windows 7 in final version and includes its own GUI.

Do you think it makes sense for a beginnig user to start with one of these
IDEs? For learning purposes may be its better to start with pure Powershell?
And what about the extensions, that PowerGUI (for example) includes? Are
they from value with V2?

What do you think?

Correct.

I use PowerShell Plus and love it! I find it has features not in the ISE
product. But it's not free.

I suspect you might want to start with ISE and "graduate" to a full gui
as and when you need it.

My .02€ worth.

Re: Beginners questions

This is purely a matter of taste/preference. If you like a GUI editor, by
all means, use one. I personally use Vim/GVim, which does have syntax
colouring. The new ISE in v2 is nice, and I'm sure the third party ones are
fine as well. But what's most important for learning PowerShell is actually
_using_ it. For me, personally, that meant never opening up a CMD window,
and doing as much as possible from the PowerShell command line. And, as time
goes on, adding "little" scripts to automate what I do. Does it make me an
overnight guru? No, sadly. But every day a bit better.

RE: Beginners questions

I tried the open source GUI and the one that shipped with the V2 CTP and
strongly prefer Powershell Plus. It's hardly a full blown IDE like Visual
Studio but some of the features like debugging and auto-completion are pretty
useful.
