According to the web page, these operating systems are supported:
WinRM 2.0 and PowerShell 2.0 can be installed on the following supported operating
systems:
* Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 2
* Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2
* Windows Vista with Service Pack 2
* Windows Vista with Service Pack 1
* Windows XP with Service Pack 3
I notice that Windows XP x64 is not listed. The download link on the page has only one
link for Windows XP, and it is 32-bit only.
PowerShell 2.0 CTP3 supported these operating systems:
* Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2; Windows Server
2008; Windows Vista Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 3
This release of Windows PowerShell installs on x86 and x64 platforms of Windows
XP-SP3, Windows Server 2003-SP2, Windows Vista-SP1, and Windows Server 2008.
So was Windows XP x64 dropped purposefully, or is this a mistake? Or, will the download
for Windows Server 2003 x64 work for XP x64, since these two operating systems share a
common codebase?
Thanks,
Chuck
I don't have time to try this out, but if you have tried and it fails, then
you're out of luck with v2 as a supported configuration.
Sorry...

I'll ask.

As for XP and 2003 being similar, I wouldn't make that assumption. That's
the case with Vista and Server 2008, but I don't think it applies
previously.

See the comment in
http://vmjunkie.wordpress.com/2009/1...4-not-so-fast/
It says that the Server 2003 x64 version installs OK under Windows XP x64.
Just passing along the comment, I have no experience running XP x64, so I could
not verify it.

Just to complete this thread

- install powershell
- spend half a day troubleshooting sound drivers (apparently commong thing
after sp3! oh so that's why I've been avoiding it like plague)
- in the end uninstall sp3
- now powershell 2 on "sp2" still with no sound
