2 links for the same package ?

Hello.
PowerShell 1.0 for Windows XP SP2 & for Windows Server 2003 SP1 seams to be
the same (KB926139).

Why does Microsoft gives 2 links (XP & Server 2003) for the same software ?

Are they really the same ?
And can I, without problems for setup & use, download the WinXP SP2
package & install it on both XP & server 2003 ?

Thank you.

Hi,

I think you should assume that they are intended for the specific
operating systems specified in the filenames.

They are not the same. They are not identical in size.

The Win2003 file won't install on XP, BTW.

The files are only ~1.6MB each. Why not download both?

Re: 2 links for the same package ?

Thank you.
Ok, I will download the two files.

But I would have preferred to have 1 file with automatic OS détection &
installation in it to simplify administration of my network !

Re: 2 links for the same package ?

I agree it would be more convenient to have one installer. I think the reason
they separate them is so they can be included in Windows Update/Automatic
Updates/WSUS etc. I think those methods require separate installers and don't
rely on/trust the installer logic to install the correct binaries for the
current platform.
