Basic PowerShell Question

Hi,
I have just started looking into PowerShell, and how does one get starated?
I have an XP based machine and VS 2005.
What do I need to start learning PowerShell?
Thanks
Jeff

Try the "Getting started" and "User Guide" documents that powershell conveniently links into the "Windows Powershell 1.0" program group in the start-menu.

There's a free Community effort under construction called "Beginning Power Shell Guide" at http://www.codeplex.com/PsObject

You put into one sentence what otherwise takes some time, skills and
effort: from getting started to getting star-rated ;-)

here is a pdf introduction:

Objectives in drafting this book
This “Windows PowerShell” book will give you an introduction to Windows
PowerShell as well as practical examples, in order to give you a quick
introduction to this subject even if you have no significant previous
scripting experience.

If you're the visual type, and want to see instead of read:
http://www.microsoft.com/events/seri...scripting.mspx

You didn't mention it... Have you installed PowerShell or need some
help with that?

Re: Basic PowerShell Question

I would also highly recommend the following from the PowerShell Team blog

http://blogs.msdn.com/powershell/arc...owershell.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/powershell/arc...scripting.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/powershell/arc...owershell.aspx

Download the example files and work through the commands.

Also there is a free introductory book available for download at
https://blogs.technet.com/chitpro-de...-download.aspx

If you are new to PowerShell the book is definitely worth downloading.
The book is only 40 odd pages but it is a very, very good introduction to
getting started with PowerShell. The book has numerous examples of working
with PowerShell and is firmly aimed at admins rather than programmers. The
book finishes with a couple of pages of "cheat sheets"

Finally the UK PowerShell User Group site at www.get-psuguk.org.uk has a lot
of links to blogs and other PowerShell related sites as well as a lot of
information on PowerShell
