| Guest | How do I rebuild the 8.3 filenames (shortnames) using Powershell? Hello. We have a CIFS share behind our NAS gateway. The CIFS volume is 2T in size. Recently we had to apply a firmware update to our NAS gateway to resolve an issue we had, but doing so, corrupted the 8.3 Filenames, which some legacy applications use. The only way we have been able to fix this is by renaming a directory and then renaming it back to regenerate the 8.3 folder name hash. I have opened a call with Microsoft, but they don't have a resource tool that can fix the filesystem. Our Unix admins are looking at a script that we received from the NAS vendor, but doesn't work properly. Requirements: Rebuild all long files and folders DOS 8.3 filenames Preserve the Creation date, access time, and modified time stamps Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks, Tim Teller |
