powershell in vista / server 2008 - gui (longhorn)

Do we need to install powershell in vista or server 2008 gui version ?

or it comes pre-built-in like vbscript in current windows os ?

In vista it is not included and you have to download and install. With Win
2008 it an optional OS component that I belive is NOT installed by default,
but a simple check box.

That is correct. Windows PowerShell is an optional component under Windows
Server 2008 since Beta 3.

Easiest way to install is from the features section on the server roles GUI

RE: powershell in vista / server 2008 - gui (longhorn)

It would be great if PowerShell could be installed by design in Windows
Server 2008, like WSH/VBScript is ! And in Vista too, perhaps with the SP1 ?

Best regards,

RE: powershell in vista / server 2008 - gui (longhorn)

The concept and new way of thinking is to enable customers to decide for
themselves to install optional server roles and/or services (such as
PowerShell) as and only when they need it.

As Marco suggests, we need more information.

In my experience, this is often the result of a bad download. Some
things to try:
1. Make sure the version of PowerShell you are downloading is the
correct one for your OS (64 bit vs 32-bit, vista vs Server 2003 vs XP,
etc).
2. Try re-downloading the installer.
3. Provide more details on your environment if the error continues. More
details are needed to enable a solution.
