PowerShell does not install on Vista

I've setup a Vista (RTM) X86 box. I finally got around this morning to
completing the setup (i.e. downloading, installing and configuring
PowerShell). While I can download OK (after being assaulted by Genuwhine
Advantage NOT), I can't install the patch.

I save the file (Windows60-kb928439-x86.msu) to the desktop, then
execute this file. I get the usual UAC 5-second slowdown, click OK, and
then get "The Update Does Not Apply To Your System".

:-(

just downloaded here and tried on a German Ultimate, and no problems.
..NET Frameweork is installed in the needed version?
Really sure, that it's Vista 32 bit?
You can also try to right click on the downloaded file, select properties
and click Unblock before installing).
This wasn't blocking in my case, but maybe it stops the installation on your
system. (At least I have already seen weird issues with executing blocked
files.)
Best greetings from Germany

I retried it here and it failed the same way. I even downloaded the .MSU
from another machine.

Of course.

Definitely.

Did that too.

It _was_ very annoying to say the least.

Actually I found out the cause (blush) and life is now good. The reason
this fails is that I already had PowerShell loaded! Not sure when I did
that - until this morning I can't recall installing it! The installer
should have provided a better error message ("hey you id1ot, you already
installed this, go away" or something).

haha. I would have asked if you installed version formerly on that system
(beta or whatever), but it sounded, like the Vista is a fresh installed one,
and I know you are not the absolute beginner ... ;-)
Agreed, the error message could be more pointed.

I have a "spare" box that I am using for Vista stuff. I set it up a few
weeks ago before my latest EMEA OCS roadshow. I must have installed
PowerShell, but can't recall doing it - I certainly did not create the
shortcut in the quick launch bar! So when I got home, I wanted to use
this box with PowerShell to write an article. I never thought to take a
look, till much later, to see if it was actually already installed.
