cannot get SharePoint and companyweb working - need help

I've recently done a swing migration from SBS2000 to SBS2008 Standard (via
SBS2003). I did not have SharePoint or full SQL working on the previous
server and am having trouble getting it going on the new server. I've done
some thrashing to get to where I am now but since I did not have any content
don't mind starting over from scratch if needed. I was able to load a
Business Contact Manager database but it loaded on the SBSMonitoring server
rather than the ##SSEE server as at that time I was not able to connect to
the ##SSEE server. After some thrashing I have that resolved and can connect
    to ##SSEE.

I do have remote and owa working and can get use SQL Express 2005 to connect
to ##SSEE and see SharePoint_Config_ (looks like one for every time I tried
to run configuration wizard), SharePoint_AdminContent, ShareWebbDB,
WSS_Content, and WSS_Search_ databases listed. In IIS I see a SharePoint web
site listed but when I try to browse to is I get a "cannot connect to
    configuration database" message.

When I try to run SharePoint Manager 3.0 Central Administration it tells me
that I cannot because SharePoint Central Administration Web application has
not been created yet and asks if I want to go to the configuration wizard
now. When I say yes, the configuration wizard does task one but fails at
task 2. I get an error message that says "An exception of type
System.ComponentModel.Win32.Exception was thrown. with the additional
information that the group already exists. I've tried reading the log file
but don't know that to do about what I see.

I am a complete SharePoint (and SQL) newbie but can follow directions.
Like I said I don't mind losing SharePoint content since I don't have any in
there but don't have a clue on what to do next. I tried detaching then
moving all the SharePoint and WSS databases and log files out of the
\Windows\SYSMSI\SSEE\MSSQL.2005\MSSQL\Data folder to see if that would allow
me to run the configuration wizard but got the same error.
I've tried finding answers on line but nothing I read is exactly my
situation and I've not been able to figure out what parts of the answers may
    apply to my specific problem.

This is the only server and it is in production so I can't do anything to
mess it up. I would like to get SharePoint working and the Business Contact
Manager database moved over to it so we can start using it properly if
possible. Any assistance or pointers are really appreciated. Thanks

RE: cannot get SharePoint and companyweb working - need help

    Anybody have any thoughts??!

I would be willing to uninstall and reinstall SharePoint but from what I've
read that is not really straight forward. Can anyone point me to a good
detailed description of how to do that on SBS 2008? Thanks in advance for
    any ideas.
