    SBS 2003 Client joining domain

i have a new installation of SBS 2003 and have joined a laptop to the domain
as the only device. i can log in from the laptop, but cannot manage the
laptop from SBS. the laptop does not show up in network places and strangest
of all i cannot ping the laptop IP address. i can resolve the name to IP
with a ping but then no response. laptop is xp pro. SBS has the latest MS
updates. my goal is to utilize WSUS. any help??

Are you using a third-party firewall? It sounds like some firewall out of
Windows' control is preventing the SBS box from properly communicating with
    the PC.

noo third party firewall. as a matter of fact i am using the laptop as a
remote desktop for the SBS server. i can ping the server form the laptop. i
can ping the IPs above and below the IP of the laptop. just cannot ping the
    laptop IP.
