RWW and RDC only work behind router

I recently purchased a server with Windows Small Business Server 2008

I am trying to use Remote Web Workplace and Remote Desktop Connection to
connect remotely to the server and computers on our LAN

I am trying to connect with a laptop running Windows XP Sp3 and IE8

    Here is my network:
    • I have broadband internet from Time Warner Cable
    • The modem is connected to a Linksys WRT54G wireless router
    • The WRT54G is connected to the server, switch, printer, NAS
    • Six desktop PC’s running Windows XP sp3 with IE8 are connected to the switch
    • I am using the server as the DHCP server
    • I forwarded port 443 on the router to the server address (192.168.XX.2)
    • I purchased and installed (on the server) a SSL certificate from GoDaddy
    for remote.myplace.com

It seems that I can only connect through remote.myplace.com and RDC when I
am behind the router. With RDC, I even unchecked “Bypass TS Gateway server
for local addresses” and could still connect so the certificate seems to be
    ok.

    When I am offsite:
    • With RWW I get the “Cannot Display Web Page” screen as though the address
    does not exist
    • With RDC I get “This computer cannot connect to the remote computer
because the terminal services gateway server address is unreachable or
incorrect. Type a valid server address”

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you configured external DNS'es (I am talking about DNS that your ISP
provides) that will resolve remote.yourdomain.com to your router IP adress.
You can verify that using nslookup, for exaample:

    C:\Program Files\Support Tools>nslookup remote.mydomain.pl
    Serwer: pl-waw4a-dns03.chello.pl
    Address: 62.179.1.62

    Nieautorytatywna odpowied«:
    Nazwa: remote.mydomain.pl
    Address: 62.89.67.179

    With kind regards

It doesn't look like that has been configured.

    It says:

    Server: UnKnown
    Address fe80::e844:23fb:d799:c444

    Name: remote.myplace.com
    Address: 192.168.xx.2

I will look for an article on how to do that. Thank you for pointing me in
    the right direction, Krystian!

RE: RWW and RDC only work behind router

Thanks, Krystian. I got the info I needed from domain host for creating the
    A record.

My next step is to figure out which address to use for my A records. When I
look at my router status, there is an IP address, a default gateway address,
and two DNS addresses. I tried using the IP, gateway, and the first DNS
address but still was unable to connect romotely. I think I still have
another problem but should start with getting the A record properly
    configured.
