Companyweb default intranet site

    Companyweb default intranet site

All of a sudden, the default SBS 2K3 Intranet site for one of my clients
(companyweb) is asking for a username and password if you try to go there,
and it will not accept anyone in the domain, including Administrator.
Likewise for all of the tools to access it or work on it from the Server
    Manager module.

Does anyone have a clue what might have happened here and how to fix things
to get it back? All ideas will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bob Showalter

Hi Bob. Have they started using Firefox? I think Firefox and SBS
Sharepoint have some issues with each other which manifest in
    authentication problems.

I just had an additional observation to muddy the water. If I log into RWW
and take the main menu option to Administer the company Intranet site, it
gives a login challenge, but accepts the Administrator login and lets me
into it. But if I continue on the the server through RWW, it will still not
accept the login challenge through IE.

    Thanks Susan,

Looks like a good possibility. Will do it in the morning. Related issue,
the post below says that must have .NET Framework 2.0. I get a little
confused by all of the .NET stuff. Add & Remove Programs shows 1.1 and
3.something. Isw 2.0 something else that is needed, or is it included in
    the 3.something?

    Again, Thanks,

If you have not installed it, it's the fix.

    ..net 3 includes .2

Did the MU; have the following update that will not go:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365)

And the problem still exists. Is this possible the reason; How do I clear
this update and get it to install?

    Thanks

    Re: Companyweb default intranet site

Ok Bob, what I see right now is you are facing two issues.

    1. Your original issue (Log in prompt trying to Access http://companyweb)
    2. Installing .NET family ..

To start with, how did issue (1) occur in the first place ?
    - was there any changes made/installation of .Net family ?
If so, what was the last version of .net uninstalled / installed ?
    Hotfix ? patches for .Net.
    - Was CEICW ran ? etc, etc ..

    ??

Must know the changes that took place. Uninstalling /reinstalling .net can
be sometimes very triky I must say. FYI, if any of the version was
uninstalled such as .net v2, or any of its patches, and then later you went
installing a higher version like .net version 3.x or any of its patches
thinking that is the latest version ... you are wrong.

I took 48 hrs troubleshooting on .net and its versions uninstalling /
reinstalling, with all the pathces to get it right.
Please keep in mind, .net versions has to be installed right from the
earlier versions with its patches and fixes, and keep going forward with
version 2.x, its patches and then version 3 and its patches. It can be a
little tedious but it will all be worth in the end..

    Hope this helps ..
