Hi,

I'm having a problem trying to configure the SBS 2008 backup. I get a
message about not being able to configure the backup schedule. I've
searched, and I see that this can be caused if the total amount of
data to backup is larger than the backup disk can store, but that's
not my problem here. I have 351GB of data total to backup, and the
external drive can hold 698GB. I'm getting a different error in the
log.. EVolumeTooBigToBackup. The system drive has a total capacity of
153GB, and the data drive has a total capacity of 2.04TB. Is failing
because it MIGHT run out of space on the external drive if I manage to
fill up the data drive? Seems rather braindead to me.. any ideas?

Yep, Windows 2008. Your external backup drive is smaller than the
'capacity' of the data volume (partition) you want to back up. This is
different from SBS 2003 Backup.

The backup destination drive must be larger than the partition(s) that you
want to back up (including freespace). [I.E. if you want to back up a 200
GB partition that contains 70 GB of data, the backup destination must be
larger than 200GB.]

Hi Merv,

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that. So now I'm left wondering
what to do.. I guess I could shrink the d: volume down to 500GB, which
would be small enough to allow both the system and data drives to fit
under the 698GB of backup space I have now.

Any drawbacks to that approach, or perhaps another solution?
