Decommissioning Exchange Server in SBS 2003

My customer is relocating premises very soon and there will be an indefinite
delay (1 - 2 months) with the installation of broadband at the new location.

Because of this, it will be the decision to turn off the mail server feature
of SBS and individuals will use POP dialup to access their email at the ISP
    who hosts their website.

    Now, thinking about the procedures.
    1. We need to submit a request to alter the MX records, to point to the ISP
    - this needs to be done so there is no loss of connectivity.
    2. When 1. is done then the Exchange server is "turned off"
    3. Configure each workstation for POP and dialup.

Ok, the question is ... what/where/how is #2 achieved.

    Thankyou for your response.

You don't need to abandon Exchange. Run the Connect to the Internet Wizard,
and configure exchange to download from the pop server to the users
mailboxes. Once you get your connection, you can change the MX records to
your server and receive directly again.

    Hello John,

Thanks for your post and Les's input.

I agree with Les that if you really need POP3 mails, consider enabling SBS built-in POP3 Connector to retrieve emails from ISP and move them to user local Exchange
    mailboxes as interim work round.

    Hope this helps.
