Don't know the login/password for Sharepoint Services Search Service.

    Don't know the login/password for Sharepoint Services Search Service.

    I don't know the logins/passwords for our Sharepoint Services Search Service
    on Windows 2008 server std.
    I'm trying to start the "Windows Sharepoint Services Search" and it takes me
    to a login page that says this:
    "Configure Windows Sharepoint Services Search Service Settings on server
    myserver"

    There's a user name and password field for the Service Account and also for
    the Content Access Account.
    I did try our administrator login/pass on both but it didn't work. Then I
    tried a user username/pass when I first setup
    the server and that didn't work either. I tried a combination of the both
    and it didn't work.
    Please advise and thanks.

    Hello John,

    Thanks for your post.

    First of all, I would like confirm if you are SBS 2008 or Windows server 2008? And if you are using Windows SharePoint Service(WSS) 2.0 or 3.0 or has SharePoint Server
    2007 installed?

    If you are using Windows SharePoint Services Search service, you may try to follow the steps listed in below TechNet article to change passwords for the Search service
    (Windows SharePoint Services).

    Change passwords for the Search service (Windows SharePoint Services)
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc288011.aspx

    Please try to change/reset the password and see if the issue persists.

    Hope this helps.

    We have SBS 2008 but Windows server 2008 comes with it.
    I have WSS 3.0 installed on Windows server 2008.
    I'll look at the article and let you know if it helps.
    Thanks for replying.

    Robin, that worked. I had to login as the SBS2008 user (administrator
    account is disabled by Microsoft) into the Windows 2008 server. I had to use
    that same user in changing the password. It didn't like the administartor in
    the command line.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for your prompt update and confirmation.

    Glad to know the information was helpful. You are welcome. Yes, the built-in Administrator account is disabled after Windows is successfully installed and another
    "administrator" was already created. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system builders are required to disable the built-in Administrator account before
    delivering the computers to customers.

    Considering the issue had been resolved, to help other people from our experience, I would like to make a summary here. If you have any further concerns with this issue,
    feel free to let me know.

    Problem Description:
    ===================
    When trying to start the "Windows Sharepoint Services Search" and it directs to a login page and cannot login with administrator credential.

    Cause:
    ===================
    The built-in administrator account is disabled by default.

    Resolution:
    ===================
    Change passwords for the Search service (Windows SharePoint Services) from SharePoint Central Administration Web site.
