    Migration from SBS2003 - 2008

    Hi,

I have recently performed a migration from SBS2003 to 2008 using the
    MS migration doc..
The doc is pretty straight forward however the migration unfortunately
    was not:
    * Ran through all the preparation procedures, successfully.
    * Created an answer file and stuck it on a usb key.
    * Installed SBS with the usb key inserted.
    * It then took the next 2hrs to install and reboot half a dozen time,
not requiring any interaction. It then got to a point where it
rebooted automatically loged on as admin and came back with an error
message saying "Windows SBS 2008 Migration Wizard has stopped
    working".
    * When I look at AD I can see that the server is fully integrated:
    *** It's a DC
*** It has acquired all FSMO roles
    *** It's a GC
    * However:
    *** Exchange is not installed.
*** Every time I reboot the server and logon it comes up with a "How
do I recover from a failed installation help box", which is of no help
    at all!
*** When I try to run the migration wizard manually it comes back with
the "Windows SBS 2008 Migration Wizard has stopped working" message.

Realistically I am now faced with 3 paths:
Path 1: Move all the FSMO roles to the old server, remove it as a GC,
DCpromo it to demote, make sure there is no residue in AD and start
the migration again using the migration wizard.
Path2: Carry on with the migration manually and install exchange.
Hoping that nothing comes to bite me in the butt later.
Path3: Move all the FSMO roles to the old server, remove it as a GC,
DCpromo it to demote, make sure there is no residue in AD and start
the migration again manually. If this is possible?

    My Questions!!!

1: Has anyone had similar experiences?
2: Which path would you recommend (you can make up a path4 if you have
    one)?
3: The 2008 migration is very wizard driven, whilst the 2003 migration
very manual. Can you follow a manual route for the 2008 migration?

    Am grateful for any input..

    Thanks

You might want to re-post in microsoft.connect.windows.server.sbs08.

Connect newsgroups don't show on usenet though, so they're only 50%
    useful.

At least, they don't with my news provider.

I'm seeing that group in Windows Live Mail, connecting directly to
    Microsoft's server--as Jim Behning mentions.
