Existing AD domain (server 2008) want to bring in SBS 2008

    Hi,

As above. SBS would be on new hardware with the existing box being a
member server. I would like to change the domain name though as it has
been set at a .co.uk which causes all sorts of issues. I'm going to go
googling, but if anyone has any advice is is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Simon

You want to change the domain name on the SBS box or the member server?

Member - can be done before the introduction of the SBS server. I know
it's a flatten and reinstall if SBS is in the picture, wasn't sure for a
    standard domain.

As long as there is no AD your trying to preserve, etc.
just go drop it to a work group..then you can join it to the SBS domain.

For that matter, if there *is* AD stuff you are trying to preserve, you could always use the RenDom utility to rename the domain *before* introducing SBS.

    Thanks Cliff and Cris,

I want to keep the existing ad information, also this server is running
exchange 2007 that would need to be migrated to the sbs box.

Re: Existing AD domain (server 2008) want to bring in SBS 2008

you can export the mail boxes to PST files via outlook from the existing Exchange Server. Then remove Exchange
Then run the RENDOM on the server, then you could install SBS 2008 in migration mode.

I've heard that horrible things happen when running REN DOM where Exchange is in play

Re: Existing AD domain (server 2008) want to bring in SBS 2008

Agreed. That last bit of Exchange 2007 existing on this server does complicate things a bit. Exchange on a DC is generally not common and very difficult to maintain without the SBS/EBS majic fairy dust, or I would've mentioned that caveat earlier. So yeah, I'm just agreeing with Cris on this. Don't run RenDom without uninstalling Exchange first.
