I want to go through the restoration process of Exchange date - the
entire database, individual mailboxes, emails etc.

My lab setup is as follows (all in a vmware machine):-

Windows Server 2008
Exchange 2007 (32-bit/sp1/eval)

Email flow etc works fine.

I've taken a full backup using windows server backup.


When I come to restore the backup in the Select recovery type screen
the option for Applications is greyed out. It says that you can
recover applications that have registered with Windows Server Backup.

I need to find out how to get Exchange to register with Windows Server
Backup. Again this is all for testing purposes - on my SBS 2008
production DC the options are all present. I want to do this in my lab
simply for testing/practice purposes.



Can anyone advise me on how to do this?

Are you quite sure that answers my question? To register Exchange
2007 with Server Backup you install Exchange Server with /
disasterrecovery? doesn't sound right to me.

So, you're trying to restore Exchange 2007 64-bit (from SBS) to Exchange
2007 32-bit on Windows 2008 32-bit hardware?

Merv - no I've got Server 2008 set up as a DC running under VMware,
with Exchange 2007 SP2 - purely a lab/testing environment. I want to
go through the actual routine of restoring individual emails,
mailboxes etc etc. For this I chose the 32-bit eval copy.

All I need to find out is how to register Exchange 2007 SP2 with
Server Backup 2008 on a standard 2008 server.

Leonid - that link you posted doesn't actually say HOW to register
Exchange with Windows Server Backup.

I'm still stumped.

I've just double checked on my lab setup and it doesnt look like
Exchange SP2 installed properly - it's still showing as SP1. I'll
reinstall SP2 and re-check the backup options.
