I have Small Business Server 2003 that has been in place for some time. For
the past week the backup is not completing successfully. I get the following
error

What other processes
Backup etc are you running?

it could be a VSS issue but I haven't seen it give this error.
Are you using Software RAID?

I am not using software RAID. There is one hardware RAID volume set up. I'm
not sure how to let you know which processes are running. I tried to cut and
paste processes from Task Manager but that didn't work. Let me know what
details you want from where. Thanks

I'd have to say this is odd
Is any Backups working?

Can you manually star the SBS Backup?

First I'd see if you can run it manually.
if it fails try Removing your VSS from the properties on the drives
then delete your backup Schedule in Scheduled tasks
and the VSS Events
Re Configure your Backup. and run again.

I would say do a Checkdisk /F on your C: drive
And reboot for it to happen
but until you get a backup I'd be scared to do that.

Some process is grabbing and holding locks on files. The usual culprit is
A/V software.

I have disabled AV on this server. I have just done a manual backup and it
worked!! Should I just reconfigure backup??
