    Exchange Activity Hangs

    I have a SBS 2003 SP2 with Exchange at SP2. I have seen a number of times
that Exchange activity has just come to a halt. Previously that have been
event log errors related to the lack of activity for which I have been able
    to apply fixes.

Today, the Outlook clients just sat for over an hour with a status of
waiting to update folder. The SBS daily monitoring report was successfully
emailed at 6:00 AM but it would appear there was no other activity. No email
came in or if it did, Outlook was not able to sync. There is nothing unusual
in any of the Event Logs. The monitoring I run on the server showed normal
CPU, Memory and Disk utilization during this time and prior. Accessing files
on the server from the client workstations functioned normally during this
    time.

That is all I can piece together on this, but there seems to be some kind of
problem every 3 weeks or so, usually involving Exchange which clears with a
server restart. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks

You can turn up event loging in Exchange System Manager to see if it records
any further details that might help you figure this out.

No issue with free space where the store or the logs are kept?

Backups run normally, using an exchange aware bu, such as the built in SBS
    backup?

After letting the server run for a few days but before it gets unresponsive,
go into Exchange queue and look for hung active connections. Notice
    anything unusual?

    Hello Perry,

Thanks for your post and others' input.

In addition, you may configure to increase Exchange Diagnostics Logging level to look for more clues.
