    server keeps rebooting

    Hi All,

We have a server 2003 that keeps rebooting. We can see the last file/thing
that is loaded is "acpitabl.dat". The error i get is "unmountable boot
    volume"
I searched on this problem via google and already tried several things
    including.
    - Disable acpi
    - Disable /enable hyperthreading.

When i boot with a windows 2003 CD and go into the recovery mode than my c:
partition (system) is not available. So i can't do a chkdsk /r
I can see all my other partitions without any problem.
If i boot with the CD and try to do a repair install than also my boot
    partitions are not available.
If i use a acronis or knoppix boot CD than i can see all my partitions
(including the boot partition) without a problem.

Has anyone got an idea what kind of problem i have?

It sounds like the MBR of the boot drive (and I am assuming the boot drive
is a physical drive/spindle and not just a partition). When using the
recovery console, you can reset the maste boot record, unless the drive has
failed. I belive you can do it with Knoppix as well, but I am not totally
    familiar with it.

    Hi,

Knoppix and also acronis can mount the boot partition. I also can see files
on it. When i use for example ultimate boot cd i also can see the files on
    all disks/partitions.
Only booting with windows CD to recovery console is not possible. It does
not show me any partitions. Offcourse i used the F6 switch etc.
I tried restoring the MRB via ubcd but no luck.
    I scanned on viruses...no luck.
This problem pisses me off because i just want to know the cause of this.
Suppose it happens to me next week again...pfff..

    Ok...

This leads me to believe it's a problem with either NTFS (possible
    corruption) or partition type IDs.

Does the recovery console not show partitions or simply not assign drive
    letters to (mount) them?

How did you scan? What utility?

Please the other questions (disk config / partitioning type) in my
    previous post.

What does fdisk -l of your hard drive(s) show under Knoppix?

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it doesn't reboot while users are using it and
    possibly disrupt operations.
