    Drive Space Decreasing but Cannot find file(s) using it up

    Hello,

    I have a few servers running Win2k3 that have not been rebooted for sometime
    (weeks to 2-3 months) In My Computer it shows, for instance, I have a 30GB
    drive and I only have 800MB left. I really do not have much on it, so I
    do properties on each directory and it adds up to about 12GB. The
    swapfiles is only about 2GB. I show hidden and system and scour the drive
    looking for this space.

    I finally give in and reboot the server, and when it comes back, I have 18GB
    of free space left......

    Does anyone have ideas on where this space goes? I have this on more than
    one server and they do completely different things. One is our Certificate
    Authority, the other was running Primevera and Tomcat, the other was an AD
    Domain Controller.

    Just cant seem to find it...

    Thanks

    Gene

    Ok, did that. Ran Tree Size, and it is stating the system volume
    information is chewing up all the space.

    Two questions, why does this keep growing
    and
    how do I clean this up?

    It looks as though they grow with change timestamps every 7 days?

    Thanks for helping

    The System Volume Information folder stores the System Restore points. You
    need to modify its settings if this tool causes a problem.

    This is windows server 2003 and I cannot find where to access/turn off
    system restore. Also VSS is not running on the drive. The files look like
    this:
    215{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752}
    214{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752}

    etc, etc

    Thanks

    Re: Drive Space Decreasing but Cannot find file(s) using it up

    Sorry, got it. VSS was off because it ran out of disk space, but if I
    change the space allocated from unlimited to a number, the files go away.
    Then I restarted it with a limit and to create every friday, as files do not
    change much on this server.

    Thanks for all your guidance.

    Hi David,

    Curious, I'm not sure if this question has been asked, are the web forums
    accessible by a newsreader?

    Also, why not tie in together the newsgroups forum (here) with the
    web-based forum in order to get better exposure to the engineers and
    convenience to the posters? I mean, I do use the Social web based forums,
    but some find that using a newsreader is easier to manage and track posts
    and responses than at the web forums, unless there's a way to access it
    using a newsreader?

    Thanks,

    Ace
