    Raise Domain Forest Level

    Hi

    Environment
I have one Win2k3 Domain Controller, with 5 member servers. Previously I
had a domain contoller running Windows 2000 Server, however the drives on
that server failed and I was unable to recover any data.

My current domain functional level is Windows 2000 native. I would like to
raise the level to Win2k3 native, however the Windows 2000 domain controller
server object is still being referenced and the process to upgrade the
functional level is failing as the object is still being recognised.

How can I remove the object so that I can upgrade my functional level.

    Thanks

    Hello Microsoft,

Run a metadata cleanup according to:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555846/en-us

Additional you should think about adding a second DC/DNS/GC to the domain
for failover and redundancy. If the only DC crashes and you don't have at
least a system state backup the complete domain is gone and youhave to start
from scratch. An image or snapshot from a Vitrual machine are NOT supported
    types of backup.

    Best regards
