Hi folks,
I am looking at a new server (Dell R710, 24G Mem, Dual Nic's, Raid
controller, Dual Quad Core Processors), with the intent of running two Server
2008 Standard on it virtualized. I"m looking to replace two Server 2003 on
older hardware. One will be for corporate financial apps, and one will be
for print server, apps, and file storage and DC in a SBS 2003 network (with
the intent of moving to SBS 2008 on another box later this year).
I'm trying to decide what disks to purchase to accomplish this. I am
considering SAS 300Gb drives running raid1 and putting both server OS
partitions on this one (150G each), and then 4-5 146G drives in raid 5
divided over the two servers as needed.
Is this a reasonable way to do this, or should I do my disks differently?
My understanding is with virtualization, you can slice the disk space up as
needed, but if I'm wrong about that, let me know.
Thanks,
Mike
