Media Center Capable TV Tuners

I have the Gigabyte GT-PTV-AF-RH TV Tuner, for which I've downloaded the appropriate Vista x64 driver from the Gigbyte website (www.gigabyte.com.tw). Media Center still cannot see the tuner, as it says "No Tuner Hardware Found" (although I can use the remote in a limited fashion). The Tuner is working, IF I use the bundled Cyberlink PowerCinema. I'd really prefer to use Windows Media Center.

Gigabyte tells me I need to install the MCECodec, which is provided by Cyberlink. Oddly enough, Cyberlink says they're only responsible for Cyberlink Powercinema, and need to contact the card manufactuer.

Gigabyte DOES have a download for XPMCE x64, but the installer says it won't work with Vista x64.

Where can I get the MCECodec so that my tuner card can work with MCE?

If there is no solution, perhaps a recomendation on replacing the Gigabyte tuner with one from another manufacturer that is proven to work with Vista x64 Media Center and that comes supplied with a Media Center Remote Control?

Sorry your having trouble with your tuner. I can't help you fix it but I can tell you that I am very happy with my AverMedia 7. If you have a spare PCIe 1x, this is a great tuner.

I like the fact that Aver doesn't include any bloatware! There is just drivers on the CD. It also includes MC remote and an HD antenna that is only useful if you live within a few miles of the HD broadcast tower. With an indoor amplified antenna (TERK), I get great HD reception at 23 miles from the transmitters.

I was almost beginning to think no-one would respond to my query!

Thanks for the tip, I'll be looking into it.

I have similar experience with internal PCI Pinnacle PCTV 110i and external USB Pinnacle PTV USB2.
HW is installed ok, in device manager HW identified, remote control is functional, but MC found no tuner.

I have a Hauppauge PVR 250 that I'm trying to run on Vista 64 Home Premium with NO LUCK. Drivers not recognized, software installs but won't function and Hauppauge's responses, while timely, don't seem to solve the problem. Wasted two weeks on this. Not worth the time.

Hi,

I have the same problem on Vista 32 Ult and WinXP MCE 2005 (RUP2, SP3). The advice I got from Gigabyte was not to install the codec (located on the driver CD) but to use the MCE patch on their webiste. None of this worked.

If I do istall the codec I get the constant "Media Center Receiver service failed" error and the tuner still only works in PowerCinema and not MCE.

Have not found a solution for this yet so I'm also considering another card . . .

Cheers,
Christoff

I have a Hauppage WinTV 1800 and it worked like a champ in Vista - until I reinstalled. Then, it worked OK for a couple of weeks - and then it stopped working. MCE reported tuner card not found.

I tried everything and finally decided to move the card to another slot - presto, card was detected again.

I suppose I should move it back and see if it works in the original slot, and if not then I need to RMA the board to eVGA, but....the 780i FTW is about out, so I might as well wait and upgrade....:P
