Re: Free Software List for Vista

Thank you Jean for suggesting these.

I added ImgBurn to the list.

What did you mean "in 32 bit compatibility" ? Did you mean a compatibility mode? If so, 32 bit is not an available mode option.

Re: Free Software List for Vista

Sorry for the misunderstanding I meant that they run in 32bit and not in 64bit.

Re: Free Software List for Vista

Ok Jean. Thank you for clarifying that. You will happy to know that ImgBurn will work in 64 bit Vista though.

ImgBurn supports all the Windows OS's - Windows 95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista and 2008 (including all the 64-bit versions).

Re: Free Software List for Vista

Shawn, a couple of things:

Gotta have WinPatrol - helps keep you alert even with processes that don't generate a UAC prompt (Is free, but also hasa paid version).

FTP client - WinSCP is good, but I also like FileZilla. Fast, efficient, and has a portable version too (portable Apps).

For Password managing, gotta be KeePass Password Safe - can be installed or run without installation, and there is a portable version as well, both U3 and Portable Apps.

Malwarebytes' Anti Malware - one of the better anti Malware programs with *active* development and multiple definition file updates daily (Is free but also has a paid version that offers real time scanning).

Recuva, a file undelete program made by the same folks as CCleaner.

Skype, for video chat and voice calls over P2P technology.

xplorer2 (lite) - my all time favorite dual pane file manager. (I personally bought the pro version because of it's features and portability....X2Lite is free, but the pro is not,)

Re: Free Software List for Vista

Some very good and free video players :

VLC- VideoLAN - Free Software and Open Source video streaming solution for every OS!
CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack

I have vista 64bit, VLC works like a charm and the The Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) has a little problem when you use your wheel on your mouse to skip forward. But still very useful.
