Default mail problem

When I click any e-mail link in Vista, I get the error message:"...default mail client has not been installed properly."
Default program is Windows Mail. How can I fix this problem?

Re: Default mail problem

Hi dcronje,

You will just need to set all of Windows Mail default associations back to it. This tutorial will show you how to.

Re: Default mail problem

I did exactly as the tutorial says but I still get the same error. Any other suggestions?

Re: Default mail problem

dcronje,

Download the reg file and merge it from the NOTE under step 4. It seems like you lost your MAIL TO protocol. This will add it back for you.

It would not hurt to make sure that Internet Explorer has all of it's default associations set to it as well.

Re: Default mail problem

(Sigh) I downloaded the reg file and merged it. I also checked Internet Explorer. No success.
What now?

Re: Default mail problem

Dcronje,

Well, the only thing left to do is to reset Windows Mail or use another email program like Windows Live Mail instead.

For Windows Live Mail see the THIRD section. To reset Windows Mail, see the How to Backup and Reset Windows Mail section.

Re: Default mail problem

OK, I got it right. Under the help files I had to open "Set Program Access and Computer defaults", then "Custom" and then I had to check IE and Windows mail.
