Problem w/Vista program Windows Contacts

I have a problem with the Vista program Windows Contacts in conjunction with using email programs. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I like to use Outlook 2000 as my email program. I have the same problem if I use Windows Mail as my email program.

I can use Outlook to send and receive email, but I cannot add any contacts to Windows Contacts. Also when creating a new email, if I click on the To… button to get to Windows Contacts, I get the error message “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If this problem persists, restart Outlook.”, which of course does not help.

I am not sure, but I think I created the problem by importing Outlooks 2000 contacts from my old PC in an improper format into Outlook 2000 on my new Vista PC (which is where the problem is).

Does anyone have any ideas that might help? Thanks……………

I've got same problem too.
When I click on a contact it doesn't open the contact so I can add details etc. Just a quick flash and then nothing.
Can anyone help??

WMDK: I removed Outlook 2000 and installed Outlook 2003 and now can click on the "To" when composing a message and can get to the contacts in Outlook. The contact problem with Windows and Windows Mail remains, however.

I have Outlook 2000 on my Vista computer and know there are issues between the two. I have been using Outlook 2000, which has been fine except the addresss book. The contacts are all there but I have to copy and paste each email address into the email "To" space, which is hard work when I'm sending to many. With Outlook I just have to type part of the name and it picks out the right one or choices.
So I thought I'd move over to using Windows Mail.
I've set up an account there which works but the contacts problem means I'm back to Outlook unless I can find a fix.
Totally confused and irritated!

Solution (sort of)
After running Restore to a point before the problem with no results, I downloaded the Vista SP1 updates - basically returning my system to the same SP1 version. The problem disappeared! Working OK now. Go figure.

So now I plan to create an Image of the working C drive. Which I had planned today when this problem appeared.

Good luck on yours. ;)
