Quicktime is corrupt and unreadable

When I boot my computer I get a message saying that QuickTime is corrupt and unreadable. It tells me to run Chkdsk. I've seen many posts on this board about this specific error but none of the resolutions provided have helped me.

I have been able to find and run Chkdsk (via cmd & by right clicking on My Computer) but when I do it says that it cannot be run now because the disk is in use but it will run upon next boot. I've tried restarting and completely shutting down and cold booting but neither worked.

I've also tried to Remove QuickTime but I receive an error telling me that it cannot be removed. I don't know what else to do. I've already had to run an Image Restore on my Vista machine only one month ago for other corrupt files. Please let me know how to fix this.

Re: Quicktime is corrupt and unreadable

I have the same problem but with the Vista Aero cursor files. Have you been able to resolve the problem?

My Computer

It was awhile ago since I've done it, but I believe I booted with the Vista DVD in my drive and before it boots I held down F8 to bring up a menu that allowed me to repair the system.

*I think it asks if you would like to restore or repair your system.

The repair does the same thing as the Chkdsk except probably quite a bit more thoroughly (as it can take hours). I ran that in the morning and came home from work to a repaired computer.

Hopefully this works as well for you as it did me.

Hi, Dean Brown, and welcome to the forums.

While the option that ktg mentioned is one way of dealing with it, there is a faster alternative that might work.

In a CMD prompt, run the following command:

Code:
SFC /SCANNOW

And see if that helps.
