Jerky playback?

Hi all,

I get this intermittent problem with MCE when watching recorded programs. The playback will become "jerky" and quite often the sound will be normal.

I've tried reformatting but I still get the problem. I've got the latest graphics cards drivers and codecs.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you checked your hardware to make sure that all is running well? What about your Reliability and Performance reports? Is it possible another program starts running in the background (for example, something that is network intensive, as for some odd reason the new UI doesn't like necessarily mixing network activity and sound activity)?

I was having a lot of trouble with stuttering and/or unsynchronized sound. I updated my codecs and cpu to dual-core and the problem disappeared but has recently started showing up again. My guess is more codec than sheer muscle but the suggestion about background programs/ services is always worth a look. You're not using Norton, are you (derisive snort)?
