Photoshop Elements 6 won't repair

I've been running Vista Untilate 32 for about a year with Photoshop Elements 6. Today I discovered that I couldn't edit photos in Elements. I can start the Elements Editor but, when I select a file to edit it appears to hang and, eventually Vista says the program isn't responding. After multiple tests and reboots I decided to try to run the Repair of Elements from the CD. It runs for a while and then prompts me to "Insert Disk 1" but I don't know what it's looking for -- but it's something other than the Install CD. I'm tempted to remove Elements and then do a new Install, but am afraid that the Install would fail and that wouldn't be good!
Suggestions? I recently installed Reader 9 if someone thinks that that could be the conflict.
