Hi,

I was wondering if someone could please let me know what software I can use so that I can block ISPS knowing what I am downloading. I tried peer guardian, but this did not work because I kept getting errors when trying to run it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

wizkid

Which is understandable if they are downloading illegal software through their ISP

I'm not suggesting that you are doing anything illegal but that is what the majority of people use those kind of sites for and they are a great source of spyware and viruses that get downloaded at the same time.

It could be against the terms of the ISP's contract using such software.

How is a proxy going to hide your IP address from your own ISP?

Just follow the directions I linked to encrypt your traffic and nobody will know what it is your downloading.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I did try and follow them but I got a bit confused, I have changed the encryption to Enable so does this now mean that no one will know what I am downloading?

Thanks,

1. Go to: Options > Preferences > BitTorrent
2. Go to ‘Protocol encryption’, you can choose between ‘enabled’ and ‘forced’. ‘Enabled’ will give you more connections but offers less protection against traffic shapers.
I would recommend to try ‘enabled’ first, if that doesn’t increase your speeds you need to swich to ‘forced’.
3. Ticking ‘Allow legacy incoming connections’ allows non ecrypted clients to connect to you. This improves compatibility between clients but makes you more vulnerable to traffic shapers.
I would recommend to tick this box, but if that doesn’t increase your speeds, untick it!

As it stands, encryption is the only thing you can do to prevent your own ISP from shaping your traffic or reading your traffic; however, if your ISP is looking at you, it's sort of obvious what you're doing. They might not know what specific file you're downloading, but just based on the amount of traffic, they're going to know you're not web browsing or playing a game.

What ISP do you have? Here's a list of shapers and other overall buzz killers: Bad ISPs - AzureusWiki

If it's BT, UK, then yes they do throttle your torrents. Setting the encyption to FORCED may or may not help. I have one of the buzz-kill ISP's and it doesn't matter what I select. They have hardware that detects all P2P traffic.

Also, do a google search for ipfilter.dat When you add this file to utorrent it blocks known bad IP address from connecting to you. There is a lot of information available on the utorrent forums regarding encryption and blocking.

If you are using streamyx, don't use utorrent. You have no change to bypass it.

There are three torrent software can get throught it are:
thunder5 , flashget and tuotu.
please notice that they are all chinese version, (that's why streamyx can't stop it).

thunder5 is for movie, most China and HongKong site like it. But japanese and Taiwan site love bitcoomet.(which also bend by streamyx).
软件中心

flashget is good for downloading software. (for some hot software you may gain 140K/s).
Best Download Manager - FlashGet
Google alert this site !!

Tuotu have a stupid wedpage. But it realy bypass the streamyx. It is best for emule type of site.
ÍÑÍùٷ½ÍøÕ¾ - ÏÂÔØÍÑÍÃ

I myself is using thunder5.
Advantage:
1, For very old movies I can still found seed/leach. whereas other said it's a dead link giving me 0/1.
2, Online movie. I can see the movie and while downloading it.
3, Many movie site purposely make and supporting thunder-downloads.

Remember, these are for legitimate downloads.

Ipfilterfull.dat should be ok. IMPORTANT: you must RENAME ipfilter_full.dat to ipfilter.dat otherwise µtorrent will ignore it.

In µtorrent : Options>Preferences>Advanced then look for: ipfilter.enable

You must set this to TRUE

Once you have set ipfilter.enable to true, select Apply then OK.
Then close µtorrent and restart it.

To check if it is working, go to the Logger Tab. It should say Loaded Ipfilter.dat

If you are using µtorrent 1.8 you can RIGHT-CLICK in the Logger field and select Peer Traffic Logging and in the sub-menu select Log Blocked Connections.
