MS Paint: Text feature unavailable

I am using Vista Home Basic 32-bit, and both the text button and the text toolbar in the View menu are grayed out in MS Paint. I have ensured that my image is at 100%, and am at a loss as to what else I can do to enable the text function. Any suggestions?

Hi AmAvocet,

As you can see, the Text Button is only active when the Zoom is set to 100%

The Text Button is not active at other Zoom settings, in this case 200%

Reset the Zoom to 100%, click on the Text Button, click anywhere on the image and then click View. Notice how the Text Toolbar can now be selected.

This is the toolbar that appears when you click on Text Toolbar. Select the required options here.

When you have selected your options, click on the Text Button again and then click on the image where you want the text to appear. Enter the text, as shown below.

Thanks, Dwarf!

I was absolutely sure that I had Zoom at 100%, but after reading your reply, the Text feature in Paint works exactly as you indicated. I have no idea where I went wrong, but I'm happy to see that it all is right now.

Perhaps you telekinetically fixed it for me. ;)

My Computer

Hi folks. First time on here.
Sorry to drag up an old thread but I'm having a similar problem. Found this fix very helpful but my trouble now is that the picture I want to add text to is twice the size of my screen (ie I need to view it in 50% zoom to see the whole thing) and I want to make a text box right across the top. If I make it 100% zoom the text box won't scroll over with the cursor, and unlike the text box in Word, you cannot reselect it once you've clicked away from it, in order to resize the box.
How can I get the box big enough (long enough) to add my text centrally across the picture?

Thanks for any help offered
